Russians

TLDR : Anticlimactic Curiosity

Some time ago, one of my roommates decided it was a great idea to get out of the house and go out for some time. Using our collective minds, we came up with a brilliant idea.

To visit a part of Gurgaon which has Russians in it!

To be fair to me, my interest in the place was to observe if there was any Russian culture and language present there. I’ve always been a sucker for the Cyrillic languages, if only because they are just alien enough for me to not understand anything (Also, I did learn a bit of Russian back in 12th grade. It was one of my hobbies during the great depression).

Anyway, place in mind and mind set, we started on this perilous journey, filled with countless dangers of the unknown.

After booking an Uber, we reached the general vicinity of the place, though there were no Russians or Russian to be found anywhere. After walking for a grand total of 5 min, we finally reached a medical shop where there was a bit of Russian underneath the Arabic and English names (I couldn’t actually tell if it was Arabic or Urdu, but the shopkeeper said Arabic. A later shop had clocks that had their time set to Yemen and Iraq, so I assumed that Arabic made a lot more sense).

We asked the shopkeeper why there was Russian there, and he said that tourists came to the Artemis hospital that was in the vicinity. He also said that the peak time to see tourists would be around noon to 4pm, what with the lockdown going on and everything.

That’s about it. There was a moment I assumed that we were in Chechen territory because of the Arabic (The Chechen Republic is currently under Sharia law, and the killer of Samuel Paty was Chechen), but that passed quickly.

Pretty anticlimactic, init? Well, I felt so, too. Now you can share in my disappointment.
